FOOD DISTRIBUTION

EFFECTS OF HUNGER AND MALNUTRITION

Wikipedia defines hunger as a condition in which a person, for a sustained period, is unable to eat sufficient food to meet basic nutritional needs. Some negative effects are:

Health:Hunger and malnutrition make the body weak and vulnerable to diseases and infections as the body does not have the fuel to build muscle and fight off infections.

Education:Without proper foods (with the right balance of vitamins and minerals) the brain is not able to develop properly. Hunger also makes it difficult to concentrate on anything, especially for children.

OUR INTERVENTION

Zimbabwe has had several droughts, floods and other natural disasters which has resulted in poverty and subsequently acute hunger. We have set up a food distribution program to alleviate hunger in the affected areas. We distribute both food and clothing and we have distributed in the following areas just to mention a few.

  • Binga
  • Beitbridge
  • Hope Fountain
  • Nyanga among others

One out of six children – roughly 100 million – in developing countries is underweight. Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five – 3.1 million children each year. WFP. FOOD DISTRIBUTION IS NECESSARY!!!

BEITBRIDGE OUTREACH

Our last food distribution outreach was in Beitbridge where a large populace had been affected by drought. 159 households each received 50kgs of maize and a 90kg bale of clothing.

Villages that received distribution included Malusungane, Tshapfuche, Dumba and Chabeta. The distribution benefited over 600 people.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Our food distribution outreaches have been made possible by our Chairperson, Ruth Makandiwa, who has consistently farmed a very large hectarage of maize to ensure that we always have maize available for distribution.
