OPERATION RESTORE SIGHT

OPERATION RESTORE SIGHT

EYE CATARACT OPERATIONS

A cataract is a clouding of the eye’s natural lens, which lies behind the iris and the pupil.

Cataracts are the most common cause of vision loss in people over age 40 and are the principal cause of blindness in the world.

Surgery to remove a cataract is the only way to get rid of a cataract. This surgery works well and helps people see better.

However cataract surgery is very expensive costing on average $3500. This makes it beyond reach to the most affected population which are the elderly living in Rural areas

ORS1

OUR INTERVENTION

After seeing the great need for eye cataract surgeries, Agape Family Care together with UFIC Medical team, funded by Dr Ruth Makandiwa started Operation Restore Sight

This has seen more than 1200 elderly people receiving free eye cataract operations.

Cataracts are the most common cause of vision loss in people over age 40 and is the principal cause of blindness in the world.

IMPACT

The impact of ORS is immense. Considering that the operation is perfomed on people who had lost hope of ever seeing again. The restoration of sight brings unimaginable joy to the beneficiaries and it is evident when the beneficiaries narrate their stories.

We have come across cases where an elderly man had to be escorted to the rest room by her only daughter
