AFC Supporting People With Albinism: Empowerment Program in Poultry

Poverty traps many with albinism in a vicious circle, as it does many vulnerable people in Africa. They end up working jobs that expose them to the harsh sun making them more vulnerable and highly susceptible to skin cancer.

Ruth Emmanuel-Makandiwa took it upon herself to equip and empower Mutare-based Ngonidzashe Muyambo who has Albinism. Ngonidzashe had applied for assistance through a written proposal for an income generating poultry project for her sustenance. The implementation of this project is part of Ruth Emmanuel-Makandiwa’s initiative through the “Together in the Same World Campaign”; to empower women and girls with albinism so they receive equal treatment and opportunities.

The donation that was channeled towards her project had Starter Crumbs, 100 Chicks, Growers Mesh, Growers Pellets, Finisher Pellets, Stress Pack, Ribbed Tube Feeders, Hinged Feed Servers, 4 Litre Water Font, Infra-Red Lamp and Fittings, 12 Litre Water Font as well as Terranox and Virukill for poulty medication.

To add to her donation Ngonidzashe also received her own Social Support Food Pack with Mealie Meal, Sugar Beans, Rice, Sugar, Flour and Cooking Oil as well as a Hygiene and Sun Protection Kit with 5 Sunscreen Lotions and a bar of laundry soap.
