AFC’s Continued Support Of Families During COVID 19 Pandemic

From the month of March; Ruth Emmanuel-Makandiwa has continued to mobilize food distributions for the less privileged through the Agape Family Care Livelihoods Program; she has managed to enable thousands of people to continue accessing nutritious food during this crisis.

Daily wage households along with vulnerable groups have greatly affected by the Covid-19 Lockdown crisis. These targeted beneficiaries are people who survive on a hand to mouth life; however owing to this dire situation, they have run out of food and hygiene provisions. As Agape Family Care we continue to reach out to urban and rural communities that have been hit unexpectedly by the crisis. Loss of daily wages for their livelihood have put these families to a greater risk of poverty, hunger and health crises. By supporting daily wage workers and other vulnerable groups we will improve their chances of surviving the pandemic during the lock-down period.

To date, getting food out to the community remains a critical need during this period considering that the pandemic has adversely affected self-employed people and those working in the informal sector who are still affected by the lock-down. The Emergency Relief Aid has been extended to non-Agape Family Care Beneficiaries with critical cases of vulnerability across the country where Agape Family Care is operational.

During the distributions; the first action has been centered on ensuring the health and safety of staff and volunteers. Measures of social distancing amongst volunteers are maintained as they keep 1 meter length away from other volunteers. Hygiene protocols are also rigorously adhered to in order to keep beneficiaries safe and also continue creating awareness of COVID-19.v
